Orange Tarpaulin Sparks False Fire Alarm, Evacuation, and Jokes Amid Renovation

Orange Tarpaulin Mishap Causes False Fire Alarm at Blackpool Tower

Reports from Kossyderrickent revealed an incident involving the mistaken perception of flames atop the Blackpool Tower, which turned out to be orange netting fluttering in the wind.

Clarification from Blackpool Police

Blackpool Police clarified the situation, confirming that what appeared to be flames atop the tower was, in fact, orange netting.

Chief Superintendent Karen Edwards shared a statement on Facebook, addressing their involvement along with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, Blackpool Council, and Merlin Entertainment.

Closure and Precautionary Measures

As a precautionary measure, the top of the tower, currently undergoing renovation, was closed, and the area evacuated.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service responded with six fire engines, but the inaccessibility of the area made verification challenging.

Fire Service Confirmation and Response

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, prompted by public concerns about a potential fire, addressed the situation on Blackpool’s Promenade.

A specialized team gained access to the suspected area and confirmed no fire existed.

Support and Assurance

Further support came from the National Police Air Service, utilizing thermal imaging to provide additional confirmation that there was no fire on the tower.

Despite the false alarm, the incident was swiftly resolved, ensuring the safety and assurance of the Blackpool Tower and its visitors.
