Universal’s Proposed Kempston Hardwick Theme Park Resort Set to Create 20,000 Jobs and Inject £49 Billion into UK Economy

Universal is making waves with its ambitious plans for a new theme park in the UK, aiming to inject nearly £50 billion into the economy.

Last year, Universal Destinations and Experiences secured a 476-acre site in Kempston Hardwick, Bedfordshire, formerly a brickworks, where they envision a sprawling new theme park resort.

The proposed project promises significant economic benefits, starting with the creation of 20,000 jobs in the long term, peaking at 5,000 workers during construction.

Once operational, the resort plans to add 8,000 new jobs across various roles.

A commissioned report by Universal highlights a projected £49 billion boost to the UK economy, including £35.1 billion during construction and the first two decades of operation.

Additionally, it aims to generate up to £14.1 billion in Treasury returns during the same period.

Universal confirms the resort will operate year-round, akin to its other global ventures.

Page Thompson, president of new ventures at Universal Destinations and Experiences, emphasized the potential of this world-class attraction to stimulate economic growth by attracting millions of visitors and creating high-quality jobs.

Path Forward and Timeline

Following a month-long public engagement process starting in April, Universal is gearing up to seek planning permission through a special development order later this year.

If approved, construction of the site is expected to span at least five years, signaling a significant commitment to the project’s realization.
