Tulsi Gabbard joins Donald Trump’s team in preparation for a high-stakes debate against Kamala Harris in Philadelphia

In a surprising political shift, Tulsi Gabbard, the former congresswoman from Hawaii who once ran as a Democrat, has now taken on a significant role in Donald Trump’s campaign. Recently appointed to Trump’s transition team, Gabbard is helping the former president get ready for his upcoming debate against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Gabbard’s Debate Experience with Harris

Drawing on her own experiences from the 2020 Democratic primary debates, where she faced Harris twice, Gabbard is cautioning Trump not to underestimate his opponent. “Kamala Harris has a lot of experience. She is not to be underestimated,” Gabbard told CNN’s Dana Bash during an interview on State of the Union. She emphasized that her goal is to share insights from her past encounters with Harris to assist Trump in his preparation.

Warnings About Trump’s Approach

Former Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross also chimed in with advice for Trump, warning him about coming off too strong in the debate. Speaking on The Cats Roundtable, Ross suggested that Trump should be mindful of his demeanor to avoid being perceived as overly aggressive, particularly when debating a female opponent. He stressed that the key would be striking a balance without appearing to “pile on” Harris.

A New Political Alignment

Gabbard’s political journey has been intriguing. Once a Democratic presidential candidate, she left the party in 2022 and became an independent. Her decision to now support Trump and join his team marks a significant realignment. Gabbard officially endorsed Trump’s 2024 campaign on August 26, and a day later, Trump named her as an honorary co-chair of his transition team.

Key Figures on Trump’s Transition Team

As part of this new role, Gabbard joins a team that includes Trump’s sons, Donald Jr. and Eric Trump, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and vice-presidential nominee Senator J.D. Vance. Together, they are working on preparations for Trump’s potential return to the White House if he wins the election.

What’s Next for Gabbard?

Despite her involvement in the campaign, Gabbard hasn’t discussed with Trump whether she would take on a role in his administration if he wins. For now, her focus is on helping him navigate the critical debates and preparing for a possible transition back to power.

As the first debate approaches, all eyes will be on Trump and Harris as they face off in Philadelphia, and Gabbard’s influence in shaping Trump’s approach will undoubtedly be scrutinized.
