In a recent Fox News interview, former President Donald Trump made some eye-opening remarks about his right to influence presidential elections and his surprise at how his poll numbers soared following his indictment.
Trump shared these thoughts during a conversation with conservative host Mark Levin, where he voiced frustration over the new superseding indictment from Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team.
“Whoever heard of getting indicted for interfering with a presidential election when you have every right to do it?” Trump remarked.
“It’s unbelievable that my poll numbers went up after the indictment. Normally, indictments make your numbers drop.
It’s all such nonsense.”
Trump’s Reflections on January 6 Charges and Clinton’s Legal Status
Trump expressed his discontent with the charges related to the January 6 events, calling it a “bad precedent.”
He also took credit for not pursuing charges against Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during his presidency.
Reflecting on that decision, Trump said, “I had to decide whether to push for the imprisonment of the wife of the president of the United States and Secretary of State.
I wanted to unify a country that was already deeply divided.”
Trump’s Take on Election Interference and Legal Challenges
Trump’s comments align with his legal team’s stance that his actions concerning state election authorities were within the scope of his presidential duties.
He also spoke about his recent rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he visited the site of an assassination attempt against him.
When asked by Levin if he received any communication from Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump said he hadn’t, but mentioned he did get a message from President Joe Biden, who had previously mentioned reaching out to Trump after the attempt.
Trump labeled his prosecution as “the worst case of election interference anyone has ever seen.”
He also addressed his legal troubles in the Georgia election interference case and the New York Stormy Daniels hush money trial, accusing the Department of Justice of targeting him for political reasons, an accusation that has been denied by Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Justice Department.
Surprised by Garland and Reflections on the Supreme Court
Trump expressed surprise at Garland, noting his initial thoughts on potentially renominating him to the Supreme Court after Senate Republicans stalled the Obama-era nomination.
Reflecting on his Supreme Court picks, Trump said, “I was surprised by Garland because I knew he was very liberal.
There were people who thought nominating him could help unify the country. But I had to make a decision, and I wasn’t sure how it would be received.
Ultimately, I ended up nominating three justices who have been highly regarded and brave in many ways.”
Trump’s comments offer a glimpse into his perspective on his legal challenges and decisions during his presidency, highlighting his ongoing frustrations and reflections on his time in office.
