Tragic M6 Collision Claims Lives of Mother and Two Children as Police Investigate Wrong-Way Driver Incident Near Tebay Services in Cumbria

A tragic accident on the M6 has left a family devastated, including two young boys who lost their lives.

The police have confirmed that a car was traveling the wrong way on the motorway when the collision occurred, resulting in multiple fatalities.

This shocking incident took place near Tebay services in Cumbria around 4 PM on Tuesday.

Remembering the Victims

Among those who tragically lost their lives was 33-year-old Jade McEnroe, who was reportedly a mother.

Alongside her, a 42-year-old man and two boys, aged seven and 15, were in the Toyota that was struck.

Heartbreakingly, a third child, also seven years old, survived the wreckage and is currently in serious condition at the hospital.

Additionally, a 40-year-old man from Cambridgeshire, who was driving a Skoda heading south in the northbound lane, also died in the crash.

Witnesses reported seeing the Skoda before the collision, with many alerting emergency services as flames erupted from the two vehicles.

Community Coming Together

As the families of the victims navigate this unimaginable loss, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to support them.

Shelly Keith initiated the fundraiser titled “The Young Family Who Lost Their Lives in the Tragic M6 Crash.”

She expressed heartfelt sentiments, stating, “Sending lots of love. Any help towards funeral costs and to assist the family at this extremely hard time would be very much appreciated!”

So far, the campaign has raised over £3,600.

Friends and family have taken to social media to pay tribute to the victims.

Hayley McEnroe shared a touching photo of herself with Jade, expressing her shock and sadness.

Maggie Snodgrass also shared her memories, describing the family as lovely and expressing her disbelief over the tragedy.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation into the accident is still ongoing, with police collecting evidence from witnesses and asking anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Drivers had reported seeing warning signs on the motorway about an oncoming vehicle moments before the crash.

Witnesses described the Skoda swerving across lanes, which led to the devastating collision.

Chris Isles, a nearby motorist, recounted seeing smoke and flames from the wreckage, noting, “It just seemed like a vehicle fire.”

Fire crews arrived quickly, utilizing breathing apparatus and hose reels to tackle the fire, while air ambulances were dispatched shortly after the accident occurred.

A Community in Mourning

As the families of those involved continue to receive support from specially trained officers, the community grieves for the lives lost.

The Cumbria Police have expressed gratitude to those who witnessed the crash and are urging anyone with information to reach out.
