Rumors are swirling that centre-back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe is considering a departure from Kaizer Chiefs this summer.
The 26-year-old captain of the Botswana national team seems to be losing his footing in the team, particularly after the arrival of new defenders Inacio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley, who have taken over his position.
Unfortunately for Ditlhokwe, he hasn’t made an appearance yet this season.
He missed the first game against Marumo Gallants due to a suspension stemming from a fourth yellow card he received on the last day of the previous PSL season.
Guidance from a Former Teammate
In light of Ditlhokwe’s situation, former Chiefs defender Morgan Gould, who has faced similar challenges during his time at the club, stepped in to offer some encouragement.
Gould shared, “The Ditlhokwe situation mirrors what I went through at Kaizer Chiefs. It’s crucial for him to reflect on his motivations for playing football and remember why he made the move from SuperSport United.”
He advised Ditlhokwe to revisit those original motivations, emphasizing that perseverance is key.
“I faced doubts too, and the way to turn things around is to work even harder and maintain focus,” Gould told FARPost.
He encouraged Ditlhokwe by saying, “Believe in yourself; you are the best version of yourself, and you’re competing against your own potential.
The team signed you for a reason, and it’s essential to remember that.
There’s no time for feeling sorry for yourself—football waits for no one, and if you fall behind, it’s tough to catch up.
But I see potential in him; he’s a focused individual and will undoubtedly make a strong comeback.”
Coach Nabi’s Transfer Plans
As the transfer window approaches, Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach Nasreddine Nabi is gearing up to enhance the team’s striking options.
With the defense already strengthened by the additions of Miguel and Dortley, Nabi is turning his focus to finding quality forwards.
In an interview with SABC Sport, he acknowledged the urgency of the situation, stating, “Right now, in October, we’re not playing.
Then we have November and December, followed by the opening of the transfer window in January.
It’s essential for me to scout for the quality we need.”
Nabi noted the positive performance of his strikers in recent matches but recognized the challenges in the African market.
“I agree that the market is quite limited; there are only a few top players available.
Clubs like Esperance, Al Ahly, and Zamalek are also vying for those talents, which makes it tough right now,” he added.
As both Ditlhokwe and the team navigate this transitional phase, the next steps could significantly impact their futures.
