In the wake of ongoing border issues, a Texas gun store owner has observed a noticeable rise in female gun buyers.
Gary Humphreys, who runs Humphreys’ Gun Shop in Del Rio, reports a growing trend of women seeking firearms for personal safety.
A New Wave of Customers
According to Humphreys, the uptick in gun purchases is linked to heightened concerns about crime associated with the border situation.
He notes that many of these new buyers are women who have never owned guns before.
“Since the border situation became more pronounced, we’ve been seeing people who previously had no interest in firearms coming in to buy them,” Humphreys told Fox News Digital.
Increased Foot Traffic and Political Backdrop
Humphreys, who has been in business for nearly 50 years and is a known supporter of former President Donald Trump, has witnessed a steady increase in customers since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris assumed office.
He emphasizes that those not living near the border may not fully grasp the extent of the situation.
He recalls a particularly frightening incident where his store’s front door was forcibly broken down.
Border Crisis and Crime Statistics
The border has experienced record-breaking migrant crossings, totaling eight million over the past three years.
High-profile crimes involving migrants, such as the murders of Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray, have intensified public fears.
However, research indicates that migrants are less likely to commit crimes compared to native US citizens.
Political Debate and Shifting Stances
As the November election approaches, the border issue has become a contentious topic.
Vice President Kamala Harris has been defending her record as the ‘border czar’.
In a CNN interview, she claimed her efforts have led to significant benefits, including increased investments in the region and a reduction in immigration from that area.
Harris criticized former President Trump for his stance against a bipartisan border bill, although she has pledged to sign it if it reaches her desk as president.
Critics point out that the bill does not include additional funding for the border wall, a policy Trump strongly advocated and Harris previously opposed.
Additionally, Harris now supports imposing consequences for illegal border crossings, a shift from her earlier position during the Democratic primary debates, where she supported decriminalizing such crossings.
