Recently, Vincent Pule rejoined SuperSport United, where he has reconnected with coach Gavin Hunt.
The two have a history of working together, having previously teamed up at the now-defunct Bidvest Wits, where they celebrated winning the 2016/17 ABSA Premiership, currently known as the Betway Premiership.
SuperSport United has been active in strengthening their squad for the upcoming season. Among the new signings are right-back Nyiko Mobbie and centre-back Pogiso Sanoka.
Additionally, goalkeeper Ricardo Goss has returned to the team on a two-year loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. These additions are expected to fortify the team’s lineup.
Pule was an integral part of the Matsatsantsa squad that traveled to Botswana for their pre-season camp.
Despite his potential, his playing time has been hampered by injuries over the past seasons. Last season, he only made 11 appearances across all competitions, managing to secure an assist while playing for Orlando Pirates.
Gavin Hunt on Vincent Pule’s Fitness
Coach Gavin Hunt is well aware of Pule’s past injury struggles but believes that the 32-year-old is now in a better state of fitness.
He mentioned that although Pule is not ready to play a full 90 minutes yet, he has been actively participating in training and matches.
“He’s fine.
He did the medicals. In the weeks he’s been here, he’s running and playing, so he should be able to play,” said Hunt. “But he’s not really 90 minutes fit, but he will have to play some minutes.”
Hunt also highlighted the need for a left-sided player following the departure of Shandre Campbell, making Pule’s availability a timely addition to the team.
Vincent Pule is expected to get some game time and possibly make his SuperSport United debut in the MTN8 quarter-finals.
This match will be particularly significant as it marks his return to Orlando Stadium to face his former club, Orlando Pirates.
The two teams are set to clash on Saturday, August 3, with the kickoff scheduled for 6 PM.
