Stellenbosch FC Defender Fawaaz Basadien Scores Stunning Goal from His Own Half During Match Against Cape Town City FC, Contending for Goal of the Season Award

In the vibrant world of South African football, there’s nothing quite like a stunning goal to grab the spotlight.

Recently, Stellenbosch FC defender Fawaaz Basadien achieved just that during a league match, scoring a spectacular goal that’s put him in the running for the coveted Goal of the Season award.

A Rising Star Linked to Big Moves

Basadien has been a standout performer for Stellies, showcasing his skills on the pitch and attracting attention from top clubs.

Just before the transfer window closed on September 20, rumors swirled about a possible move to Kaizer Chiefs.

At 27 years old, Basadien is not only making waves at the club level but is also a notable member of the Bafana Bafana squad under coach Hugo Broos, thanks to his impressive performances.

A Goal to Remember

In a recent match against Cape Town City FC, Basadien scored an unforgettable goal that contributed to Stellenbosch’s 3-0 victory.

The moment was nothing short of extraordinary: starting from his own half at Athlone Stadium, he picked up the ball, made a few strides forward, and unleashed a powerful shot that flew past CT City’s goalkeeper, Darren Keet.

Even though Keet managed to get a hand to it, the shot was simply unstoppable.

The Buzz Around His Wonder Goal

The football community is already buzzing with discussions about whether Basadien’s goal will hold up as the best of the season.

Ahead of the upcoming MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Basadien reflected on the thought process behind that incredible strike.

“I did mean it [to take a shot],” he shared. “In that moment, I was looking to find Devin Titus.

But once I saw they fouled Titus and he fell, I knew I didn’t have options in front of me.

I just looked up, and I saw Keet was struggling to get back a bit, and I just hit it.

As soon as I struck it, I felt I got it well enough, and I knew this was a goal.”

The Fan Reaction and Future Aspirations

With the flood of messages congratulating him, Basadien has taken a moment to absorb the excitement.

“To be honest, I didn’t really check all the [congratulatory] messages.

There are still quite a few I received, with many people saying it’s the goal of the season.

Hopefully, I’ll win the Goal of the Season award, but we’ll see.”

As he looks ahead, Basadien’s wonder goal has not only marked a high point in his career but also set the stage for an exciting season with more thrilling moments to come.
