President Zelensky’s Visit to Wounded Ukrainian Soldiers
Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, paid a visit to wounded Ukrainian soldiers at Staten Island University Hospital in New York City as part of his activities surrounding the United Nations General Assembly. This marks his first appearance at the annual UN General Assembly since the war in Ukraine began.
Honoring the Sacrifice

He greeted them warmly, shaking their hands as he entered a press conference. During this heartfelt visit, he went on to present honorary medals to not only the soldiers but also members of the hospital staff.
A Show of Resilience

Strong Messages at the Hospital
Addressing reporters at Staten Island University Hospital, President Zelensky emphasized the importance of their messages being heard by international partners. He also took a stand against the presence of Russian delegates at the United Nations, referring to them as “Russian terrorists.” He indicated that this issue is not just his concern but should be a matter for all United Nations members to address.
Cooperation and Assistance
During his hospital visit, President Zelensky toured the facility alongside Michael Dowling, the CEO of Northwell Health, the hospital’s owner. Dowling highlighted that since March, 18 Ukrainian soldiers have received treatment at the hospital. He emphasized their commitment to supporting Ukraine in any way possible.
Support for Injured Soldiers
Inside a hospital room, President Zelensky witnessed Ukrainian soldiers in khaki uniforms undergoing rehabilitation exercises with newly acquired prosthetic limbs. The hospital has provided treatment and care to a total of 35 servicemen over the past year, with nine soldiers currently receiving treatment there.
