Soweto Prepares to Say Goodbye to Darlington Michaels, Star of Isidingo, Who Died at 78 Following Illness as Detailed Memorial and Funeral Services Are Announced

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Darlington Michaels, a cherished actor known for his iconic role in Isidingo.

On Monday, September 16, details of his memorial and funeral services were shared with the public.

Final Farewell Plans

Darlington Michaels passed away on Friday, September 13, at the age of 78 after a brief illness.

His memorial service is set for Thursday, September 19, at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani, starting at noon.

The funeral will follow on Saturday, September 21, at Uncle Tom’s Community Centre in Orlando West, Soweto.

The service will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at 11:00 AM, after which he will be laid to rest at Westpark Cemetery.

A Sad Health Update

Known to many as Teboho Ndarana, Darlington Michaels was recently hospitalized at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.

Reports from Zimoja reveal that he required oxygen assistance due to breathing difficulties.

A source from the hospital described the scene, noting the recognition and sadness felt by those who saw him.

A Legacy of Versatile Roles

Darlington Michaels, widely remembered for his role as Georgie “Papa G” Zamdela on Isidingo since 1998, also made significant contributions to other popular productions.

He appeared in the sitcom Chandies and Netflix’s How to Ruin Christmas: The Funeral.

Additionally, Michaels featured in The Road as Themba Mashinini Senior, and had roles in SABC1’s Gazlam and Vula Vala.

His versatile performances and enduring presence will be missed by fans and colleagues alike.
