The peaceful routine of a small Eastern Cape community was shattered on the night of October 6th when a tragic mass shooting took the lives of six local patrollers.
The patrollers were preparing for their evening rounds at Lugongozo Junior Secondary School in Tina Falls, near Qumbu, when they were ambushed in a violent attack that left the region in shock.
Manhunt Underway for Gunmen
South African police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators responsible for the brutal attack.
According to authorities, a group of at least eight heavily armed men stormed the school grounds around 10:45 PM, opening fire on the unsuspecting patrollers.
The attackers used rifles and handguns, killing six people on the spot and leaving four others critically injured.
The injured were rushed to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.
Patrollers Targeted in Cold Blood
The victims, who had gathered at the school for their routine patrols, were caught off-guard by the attackers.
Police are still trying to piece together the events and uncover a motive for the shooting.
With the suspects still on the loose, the community remains on edge, fearing for their safety.
Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, the Eastern Cape’s provincial commissioner, expressed deep concern over the attack, particularly because those targeted were community members working to assist law enforcement in keeping the area safe.
Mene vowed to deploy maximum resources to ensure the suspects are swiftly apprehended.
