On Sunday, September 15, actor Sello Motloung took a moment to honor his late colleague, Darlington Michaels, just hours before he himself passed away.
The news of Michaels’ death came as a blow to many, marking the end of a storied career.
Michaels, known for his flamboyant portrayal of Georgie “Papa G” Zamdela in Isidingo, passed away on Friday, September 13, at the age of 78.
Sello Motloung’s Heartfelt Tribute
Sello Motloung, 54, shared his emotional tribute to Darlington Michaels on Facebook.
Reflecting on their work together, Motloung reminisced about their days on Chikin Biznis from 1997, a project that featured a stellar cast including Fats Bookholoane, Connie Chiume, and Nomhle Nkonyeni.
Motloung wrote, “In Chikin Biznis, a young actor like me found himself in the midst of a masterclass he hadn’t signed up for.
One memorable scene was with Bookholoane and the incredibly talented Darlington Michaels.
Though that particular scene didn’t make it to the final cut, I treasure the memories from both the final and director’s cuts.”
He continued, “The second time I worked with Bra D, as we affectionately called him, was on Isidingo: The Need. Rest well, Bra Darlington Michaels.
You were a remarkable actor and a true theatre maker.”

The family of Sello Motloung confirmed his passing in a statement to TshisaLIVE.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Ntate Sello Motloung on Sunday, September 15.
His family is in shock and we ask for privacy during this difficult time.
