It’s no secret that former FOX Sports analyst Skip Bayless isn’t one to hold back his opinions, especially when it comes to NFL great Tom Brady.
Recently, while tuning into the game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals—broadcast on FOX—Bayless didn’t shy away from sharing his thoughts on Brady’s color commentary, dubbing him “Capt. Obvious.”
He remarked, “I’ve been listening to 49ers-Cardinals commentary by Capt. Obvious … who just talks and talks more and more obvious.”
Brady’s New Role in the Booth
This season marks Brady’s debut as a broadcaster, where he partners with play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt as the network’s top duo.
However, his transition hasn’t been without its challenges.
His first week in the booth received mixed reviews, and critics have been quick to point out his struggles.
Bayless has a history of critiquing Brady on social media.
Just a few weeks ago, he expressed his disappointment after watching Brady call a game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints.
He later compared Brady’s commentary unfavorably to that of Tony Romo, another former quarterback turned analyst.
Bayless tweeted, “Romo gives you far more X&O insight and enlightenment. Some ex QBs can see it and say it.
Some can’t. Maybe Brady played more with indescribable feel and instinct. But … he’s just a booth rookie.”
Brady’s Journey Ahead
While Bayless critiques from the comfort of his home, Brady is under a remarkable ten-year, $375 million contract to cover NFL games.
Each week appears to bring improvement as the legendary quarterback adjusts to his new role behind the microphone.
Meanwhile, Bayless has found himself a free agent after leaving his long-time show, Undisputed, over the summer.
In August, he announced on X, “Today was my last show on Undisputed. I’m leaving FS1.
I’ve been planning to pursue other opportunities for several months.
I had a great 8-year run with a lot of great people at FOX, but now I’m excited for what’s coming up. Stay tuned.”
While his next steps remain under wraps, there are whispers that he might be teaming up with rapper Lil Wayne to launch a new show.
The future certainly seems bright for both Bayless and Brady, albeit in different arenas.
What’s next for these two titans of sports media?
