This incident occurred early Friday morning, around 8:50 AM, prompting a swift response from emergency services at Sunbury Lock, located in Sunbury-on-Thames.

Initially, six individuals were aboard a rowing boat when it unexpectedly capsized.

This alarming event triggered an urgent rescue mission as teams rushed to the scene to assist those in distress.

Fortunately, five of the rowers were located, but three were transported to the hospital for precautionary evaluations.

Sadly, the search continues for the missing man, who authorities believe may still be in the river.

Authorities are actively investigating how the boat flipped over.

A spokesperson for the police stated, “Sadly, we believe a man in his 60s may still be in the river.”

They have notified his family and are providing them with ongoing updates during this difficult time.

Chief Inspector Andy Jenkins from North Surrey emphasized the distressing nature of the situation, reassuring the public that efforts to support the search are ongoing.

He also mentioned, “At this time, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances or third-party involvement.”

A spokesperson from the ambulance service shared that crews were dispatched to Sunbury Lock after receiving reports of multiple people in trouble.
