Sean Dyche is keeping his attention firmly on Everton’s performance rather than his expiring contract.
Recent comments from potential new owner John Textor have stirred speculation about Dyche’s future at Goodison Park.
Textor, who heads Crystal Palace and is pursuing Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 percent stake in Everton, mentioned this week that he plans to discuss Dyche’s role with him if the takeover proceeds.
Dyche Unfazed by Speculation
Dyche, who previously managed Burnley for a decade, is no stranger to such scrutiny.
He remarks, “In my 10 years as a manager, I’ve dealt with questions like these many times before.”
He explains that discussions about a manager’s future are common in football.
“At Burnley, there were always rumors about who should be the next manager.
It’s part of the job, especially if you’re not among the most legendary figures in the sport.”
He cites Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta as an example, noting that Arteta faced calls for his departure early in his tenure but is now enjoying success and a new contract.
Dyche also recalls Arsene Wenger, whose long tenure at Arsenal was frequently questioned despite his significant contributions.
Contract Talks Not a Priority
Dyche’s contract is set to expire this summer.
When asked if he would need to discuss a new deal with a new owner, he was clear: “Absolutely not. My focus is on the team and winning matches.
Contract issues will resolve themselves. My main concern is our performance on the pitch.”
Everton’s Support for Dyche
Everton has reiterated its backing of Dyche amid the uncertainty.
Interim chief executive Colin Chong issued a statement emphasizing that while talks with Textor are ongoing, his comments represent only his personal views.
The club remains committed to supporting Dyche and the team as they prepare for their upcoming match.
Injury Concerns and Upcoming Fixture
Everton faces Aston Villa on Saturday, but Dyche will be without Jarrad Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson.
Captain Seamus Coleman is also a doubt following an injury with the Republic of Ireland.
New signing Armando Broja is sidelined, though Orel Mangala may feature.
Reflecting on recent challenges, Dyche acknowledges the turbulent period for both the club and himself.
Despite a disappointing 3-2 loss to Bournemouth, where Everton squandered a 2-0 lead, Dyche remains focused on bringing stability and success to the team.
“Football rarely surprises me, though the Bournemouth match did for a few minutes,” he says.
