These statistics highlight the top 10 crime hotspots in the country.
The provinces of Gauteng, the Western Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal have reported the highest number of cases, with the majority of the top 10 police stations located in these areas.
Lieutenant-General Norman Sekhukhune, the head of police research and statistics, noted an increase in serious and violent cases in these regions during the review period.
Top 10 Crime Hotspots:
1. Johannesburg Central (Gauteng)
2. Mfuleni (Western Cape)
3. Nyanga (Western Cape)
4. Mitchells Plain (Western Cape)
5. Tembisa (Gauteng)
6. Durban Central (KwaZulu-Natal, 927 crime cases)
7. Plessislaer (KwaZulu-Natal)
8. Inanda (KwaZulu-Natal)
9. Temba (Gauteng)
10. Delft (Western Cape)
Johannesburg Central:
Johannesburg Central police station tops the list, with 1,054 cases reported in the first three months of this year.
This represents a 6.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
Western Cape:
Mfuleni, Nyanga, and Mitchells Plain, all located in the Western Cape, follow Johannesburg Central.
Mfuleni reported 959 cases, a 19.7% increase from January to March this year.
Nyanga reported 950 cases, a 13.4% increase, and Mitchells Plain reported 933 cases, reflecting a 20.5% increase compared to the previous year.
KwaZulu-Natal:
At the time of the statistics release, Tembisa in Gauteng’s East ranked fourth, with 927 reported crime cases.
It was followed by Durban Central (927 cases), Plessislaer (892 cases), and Inanda (882 cases), all located in KwaZulu-Natal.
