Rulani Mokwena, who recently took the helm as head coach at Wydad Casablanca, is now eyeing a familiar face to join his new team.
The latest buzz in football circles suggests that Mokwena is targeting Sean Louw, the current goalkeeper coach at Chippa United, to be part of his staff.
Mokwena’s new role at Wydad Casablanca comes after a successful stint with Mamelodi Sundowns, where he led the team to their seventh consecutive league title and won the inaugural 2023 African Football League.
Notably, Mokwena’s Sundowns defeated Wydad Casablanca in a thrilling two-legged final with a 3-2 aggregate score.
He also clinched the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season award for two years running, further cementing his reputation in South African football.
Prior to becoming the head coach at Sundowns in October 2022, Mokwena co-coached the team alongside Manqoba Mngqithi, after Pitso Mosimane’s departure to Al Ahly.
Potential Reunion with Sean Louw
Now, as Mokwena assembles his technical team for Wydad Casablanca, he’s reportedly set his sights on Sean Louw.
Louw, a respected goalkeeper coach, is known for his work with Chippa United and has been instrumental in the development of standout players like Stanley Nwabali, who played a key role in Nigeria’s run to the final of the 2023 AFCON.
A source close to the situation revealed, “Rulani Mokwena is keen on bringing Sean Louw on board at Wydad Casablanca.
Louw, at just 27, has already earned considerable respect in South African football.
He and Mokwena previously worked together at Chippa United, and despite the brief time, they established a strong working relationship.”
What’s Next?
As the transfer season unfolds, it will be interesting to see if Louw makes the move to Wydad Casablanca and how this will impact both teams.
