In an effort to control migration, the UK government announced on Tuesday that students from Nigeria and other countries would no longer be allowed to bring their families with them abroad.

Additionally, the government banned individuals from utilizing student visas as a means to work in the UK, citing a high net migration of over 500,000 from June 2021 to June 2022.

To prevent visa system misuse, students will be prohibited from switching to work routes until they complete their studies.

Omokri Criticizes Nigerian Government’s Response

Omokri expressed his condemnation of the visa policy and questioned why the Nigerian government had chosen to remain silent in the face of such discrimination.

He highlighted the government’s swift response when Twitter deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet, contrasting it with the lack of action regarding the current situation.

Taking to Instagram, Omokri wrote about the disparity in responses, emphasizing the need for Nigeria to address the UK’s discriminatory student visa policy against Nigerians.

He deemed it unfair for the UK to treat Nigerian citizens in such a manner while the Nigerian government appeared indifferent.

Omokri emphasized that Nigeria possesses alternative trading partners, including the EU, US, India, China, and Brazil, who would gladly fill the gap left by the UK.

He urged the government to utilize its power and influence to assert Nigeria’s position, questioning the usefulness of the Commonwealth if such treatment could be tolerated.
