Imagine settling down for a peaceful dinner at home, surrounded by loved ones and pets, when suddenly, chaos erupts.
That’s exactly what happened to Marcus Holmberg and Sabrina Rivera on a Friday night.
As they relaxed in their living room with their four dogs, a teenage driver, allegedly under the influence, lost control of his Mustang and crashed into their home.
A Close Call
The incident, captured in dramatic CCTV footage, shows the car barreling through the couple’s dining room around 10:30 PM.
Although the crash caused significant damage, Holmberg and Rivera fortunately escaped with only minor cuts and bruises.
Three of their four dogs were also in the room when the crash occurred, adding to the terrifying experience.
Holmberg reflected on how lucky they were to be alive, expressing his disbelief at how close they came to a much worse outcome.
“Some reckless kid, drinking and driving, tried to do donuts and ended up going through our house,” he said.
Legal Action
Following the incident, police arrested an 18-year-old on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Holmberg and Rivera have since decided to press charges.
“He nearly killed us,” Holmberg explained.
“Now, I have to miss work and go to the hospital.”
Reviewing the CCTV footage, Holmberg noted that the driver was initially on a direct path toward Rivera.
However, the car collided with Holmberg’s truck, which was parked outside their home, causing the vehicle to veer off course.
“If it wasn’t for my truck, he would’ve hit her directly,” Holmberg said, grateful for his decision to park the truck in that exact spot just over an hour before the crash.
Aftermath and Moving Forward
In the immediate aftermath of the crash, Holmberg’s priority was ensuring Rivera and their dogs were safe.
Thankfully, none of the dogs were harmed.
“Thank God they’re okay,” Holmberg said, relieved that his furry companions escaped unscathed.
Now, the couple faces the daunting task of rebuilding their lives.
They’ve launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising $30,000 to cover repairs to their home and Holmberg’s damaged truck.
“We’re just trying to survive and get the basics covered,” he explained.
“We’re asking for the bare minimum to fix our home and truck.”
What’s Next?
As the couple navigates the legal process and deals with the emotional and financial fallout of the crash, their focus remains on recovery and moving forward.
They hope that with the help of the community, they can begin to rebuild and put this traumatic experience behind them.
