Ramiro Gonzalez, a Texas man convicted of a heinous crime, faced execution on Wednesday night despite a last-minute twist in his case.

Back in 2001, Gonzalez admitted to the kidnapping, sexual assault, and fatal shooting of 18-year-old Bridget Townsend.

Her remains were discovered a year later in Southwest Texas, thanks to Gonzalez’s disclosure to authorities.

As the lethal injection took place at the State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Gonzalez addressed Townsend’s family with remorse.
