Princess Theodora of Greece and her long-time fiancé, LA-based lawyer Matthew Kumar, have finally said “I do” after a four-year delay.
The 41-year-old actress, who is known for her role as Alison Montgomery on The Bold and the Beautiful, looked stunning as she arrived at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Athens.
The couple, who had faced several postponements due to the pandemic and family tragedies, were finally able to celebrate their big day surrounded by royalty from across Europe.
A Bride in Couture and Tradition
Princess Theodora’s choice of wedding attire was nothing short of spectacular.
She wore a custom-made off-the-shoulder gown designed by Greek fashion icon Celia Kritharioti.
The intricate gown featured a fold-over neckline and an A-line silhouette, embellished with shimmering white beads, creating a timeless bridal look.
The princess completed her ensemble with the historic Khedive of Egypt Tiara, a family heirloom worn by generations of royal brides in Theodora’s family.
The tiara, designed by Cartier, is a laurel wreath-inspired piece made from diamonds and platinum.
Despite the absence of her late father, King Constantine II, Theodora’s oldest brother, Crown Prince Pavlos, walked her down the aisle.
The touching moment between the siblings was made even more special as her niece, Princess Olympia, helped adjust her gown before entering the cathedral.
A Wedding Steeped in History
The couple’s wedding date was symbolic, as it closely coincided with the wedding anniversary of Theodora’s parents, King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie, who were married in Athens in 1964.
Initially, the couple had planned to wed on the Greek island of Spetses in 2020, but the event was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A second date in 2023 was also delayed following the death of King Constantine in January of that year.
The royal wedding finally took place in Athens, with European royals in attendance, including Queen Sofia of Spain and Princess Olympia of Greece.
The day was a beautiful celebration of love and legacy, with a nod to Theodora’s Greek heritage and family ties across Europe.
A Fashionable and Joyous Weekend
The wedding celebrations kicked off with a pre-wedding dinner at the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens.
Princess Theodora, radiant in a chic white midi dress by Celia Kritharioti, hosted a star-studded gathering of royals, including her niece Princess Olympia and her aunt Queen Sofia.
The bride-to-be accessorized her look with a pearl clutch from LA-based brand Cult Gaia, while her fiancé Matthew looked sharp in a navy blazer and black trousers.
The day before the wedding, the couple was spotted at the Metropolitan Cathedral, making final preparations for their nuptials.
Theodora wore a breezy linen dress with whimsical illustrations, while Matthew kept things dapper in a striped shirt and blazer.
The bride’s mother, Queen Anne-Marie, and siblings Nikolaos and Alexia, were also present, sharing in the joy and excitement of the upcoming wedding.
Overcoming Challenges to Celebrate Love
This royal wedding was much anticipated, given the delays caused by the pandemic and the passing of King Constantine.
Even though Theodora and Matthew faced hurdles along the way, they made the best of their situation.
The princess had previously shared a heartfelt post on Instagram during their original 2020 wedding weekend, thanking her friends and family for their support, and expressing her excitement to eventually celebrate in Greece when it was safe.
Now, with their vows exchanged and their loved ones by their side, Princess Theodora and Matthew Kumar are ready to embark on this next chapter of their lives together.
