Pretoria Callies has made some significant changes as they gear up for the new season.
The club’s president, Moses Malada, has announced the appointment of Fabio Lopez as their new head coach, along with a few key signings.
Fabio Lopez Takes the Helm
Lopez, who previously scouted for Fiorentina FC and Atalanta FC, has officially signed on as the team’s coach.
Malada shared that Lopez has completed all the necessary paperwork and is set to lead the team from the sidelines.
The aim for Lopez is clear: build a competitive squad capable of achieving promotion to the Betway Premiership for the 2025/26 season.
“He is officially the coach and will be assisted by Bushy Moloi,” Malada told FARPost.
“We wanted someone with experience who could bring a fresh approach to the club.
The goal is to develop a team that can compete effectively next season.
We’re committed to stability and aren’t a club that frequently changes coaches.”
Lopez, 51, comes with an impressive resume, holding a UEFA Pro License and serving as a UEFA B License instructor for the Lithuania Football Federation.
His coaching experience includes stints with the Laos and Bangladesh national teams.
His most recent role was with Dong A Thanh Hoa FC in Vietnam in 2020, according to Transfermarket.
New Signings Revitalize the Squad
In addition to the new coaching staff, Callies has welcomed several new players to their ranks.
Nkanyiso Zungu, a former Orlando Pirates midfielder, is among the notable additions.
Zungu, who previously played for Stellenbosch FC, AmaZulu FC, and Richards FC, joins Callies after a spell with relegated Platinum City Rovers.
The club has also signed former Marumo Gallants goalkeeper King Ndlovu, who left Gallants midway through last season.
Alongside Ndlovu, Callies have brought in Waseem Isaacs, a former Stellenbosch striker, and Gregory Damons, a former Swallows defender.
With these changes, Callies is looking to make a strong impression and set themselves up for a successful season ahead.
