…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. President Bola Tinubu made his first public appearance at his office in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Tuesday, following his inauguration the day before.
He arrived at the office around 2.30pm and was warmly received by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Permanent Secretary of the State House Tijjani Umar, and other senior government officials.
Also present were Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Mele Kyari, former Lagos Commissioner for Finance Mr Wale Edun, Mr Dele Alake, and Hon. James Faleke.
Meeting to Address Fuel Subsidy Controversies
Reports indicated that President Tinubu was scheduled to meet with Mele Kyari, the NNPCL Boss, and Godwin Emefiele, the CBN Governor, to discuss the controversies that arose following his comment about fuel subsidy removal during his inauguration.
The President sought to provide clarification on the matter.
Tinubu’s Statement on Fuel Subsidy Comment
President Bola Tinubu clarified that the announcement of fuel subsidy removal is not a new development or an action of his administration.
In response to the long queues observed at petrol stations nationwide shortly after the announcement, Tinubu’s Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Media Centre issued a statement.
It explained that Tinubu was simply conveying the existing situation, emphasizing that the end of fuel subsidy would not take immediate effect.
The statement highlighted that this development was not new, as the previous administration’s budget for fuel subsidy was planned and approved to last only for the first half of the year.
Panic-Buying Deemed Unnecessary
The statement further noted that the panic-buying triggered by the announcement was unnecessary.
