Today, Heathrow’s bustling departure lounge was thrown into disarray by none other than Phoebe Plummer, who’s become a notorious figure in the climate activism scene.
Armed with nothing but a can of orange spray paint and a confidence level that rivals even the most flamboyant celebrities, Plummer, alongside another activist, painted the building before being swiftly apprehended and taken into custody.
At just 22 years old, Phoebe Plummer has already made headlines for various high-profile stunts.
Currently out on bail for a previous incident involving a Van Gogh painting, Plummer now faces the possibility of extended detention.
Judge Christopher Kehir, known for his stern approach, had warned her to prepare for a prison sentence.
Recently, Kehir sentenced several members of the Just Stop Oil group, including Cressida Gethin and Roger Hallam, to 4-5 years in prison for similar offenses. His warnings are far from idle threats.
Who is Phoebe Plummer?
Plummer, who once compared herself to Martin Luther King, hails from a privileged background.
She was educated at the prestigious St Mary’s Ascot boarding school and later studied social anthropology at the School of Oriental and African Studies. Despite growing up in a luxurious Chelsea townhouse, she now resides in Lambeth.
There’s no indication she’s found stable employment in her new home. Plummer has boasted about her ability to focus on activism without the burden of everyday financial struggles, claiming that she doesn’t have to juggle multiple jobs or worry about paying bills.
Plummer first gained notoriety in October 2022 when she, along with Anna Holland, threw cans of Heinz soup at Vincent Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” at the National Gallery.
The incident sparked global outrage, though the painting was protected by glass. Plummer seemed less concerned about the damage to the painting’s frame.
After the soup splashing, the activists glued their hands to the floor, making a dramatic statement about oil and gas. They were convicted of damaging property and are expected to face jail time.
While on bail for the Van Gogh stunt, Plummer was involved in another disruptive protest. In November 2022, she joined fellow activists in blocking the M25 motorway.
The chaos, which included climbing gantries and targeting petrol stations, resulted in a four-day traffic nightmare. Plummer, who was photographed being removed by police, reportedly boasted about her role in the disruption, claiming there was little risk of significant punishment.
June 2023 – Arrest at a Café
In June 2023, Plummer was apprehended while enjoying breakfast in an upscale café in Islington. Her arrest came after she violated her bail conditions by participating in a slow march.

July 2024 – Heathrow Airport Stunt
Just today, Plummer was back in the spotlight for targeting Heathrow Airport with orange paint in a climate change protest. The action, intended to make a statement about environmental issues, did little to disrupt travelers at the start of the summer holidays.
Plummer and her co-activist, Jane Touil, were promptly arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
The Metropolitan Police remained on the scene to handle any additional offenses.
