Peter Andre has stepped into the spotlight to defend the dancers of *Strictly Come Dancing*, calling the ongoing controversy ‘going too far.’
The popular BBC series has recently been hit with a series of serious allegations, with several stars accusing their professional partners of abuse and bullying.
Peter, who danced on the show in 2015 with Janette Manrara, took to Instagram to voice his support for the dancers involved.
In a heartfelt video from his garden, he expressed his concern that the dancers are being unfairly targeted.
He highlighted Janette Manrara, Anton Du Beke, Aljaž Škorjanec, and Giovanni Pernice as professionals who treated him well during his time on the show.
Peter shared, “I feel compelled to stand up for these individuals because I was there and saw how they acted.
People like Janette Manrara are being unfairly dragged into this mess.”
He continued, “If someone has done something wrong, that’s unacceptable.
But from my experience, people like Giovanni and Anton were always respectful and kind.”
A Call for Fairness
Peter acknowledged that if there’s misconduct, it must be addressed, but he believes some of the accusations might be extending too far.
“I think they’re dragging everyone into this, and it doesn’t seem fair,” he said.
His post concluded with a reminder that while it’s crucial to speak out about wrongdoings, not every accusation should be assumed to be true without evidence.
Reactions and Criticism
In response to Peter’s support, some followers criticized him for defending the dancers without knowing the full story.
One follower argued that Peter’s positive experience didn’t negate others’ negative ones, while another highlighted that women often fear coming forward because of such responses.
Peter defended his stance, emphasizing that his comments were based on his own experiences and his desire to support Janette, who had been his partner.
He reiterated, “I’m not supporting any form of abuse. My focus is on those who’ve been unfairly implicated.”
Ongoing Controversies
The scandal began with Giovanni Pernice’s suspension amid allegations of misconduct, which he has denied.
Graziano Di Prima was recently dismissed after accusations of physical abuse.
Zara McDermott, who experienced distressing incidents with Graziano, has spoken out, while Janette Manrara has also faced scrutiny over claims related to her time on the show.
Looking Ahead
With more celebrities coming forward and the show facing increased scrutiny, the upcoming series of *Strictly Come Dancing* might start with an apology to address the concerns raised.
The BBC is reportedly keen to move past the scandal and focus on celebrating the show’s 20th anniversary when the new season kicks off in September.
