With the NFL London Games on the horizon, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is determined not to let a knee injury sideline him in the matchup against the Jaguars.
This rookie is ready to step up and showcase his skills on an international stage.
Feeling Ready for Sunday
During a media session on Friday, Maye radiated confidence, stating, “I’m feeling good. Ready to go for Sunday.”
His positive outlook emphasizes his commitment to playing, even with his name on the injury report.
When asked about the injury, Maye kept it straightforward, focusing on the game and his desire to deliver an exciting performance for the fans in the UK.
“Injuries are something that you don’t really try to share with the media,” he noted.
“Looking forward to Sunday.”
A New Era for the Patriots
Following Jacoby Brissett’s struggles in a recent 15-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins on October 6, Maye has stepped into the starting quarterback role.
After a strong start against the Cincinnati Bengals in their opener, the Patriots have faced tough times, losing their next four games to the Seahawks, Jets, 49ers, and Dolphins.
Despite these challenges, Maye has demonstrated flashes of potential.
In his first start against the Houston Texans, he completed 20 of 33 passes for 243 yards, throwing three touchdowns.
Unfortunately, the team fell short in a 41-21 loss, with Maye also dealing with two interceptions and being sacked four times.
Brief Appearances and a Tough Start
Before his starting debut, Maye faced a rough outing against the Jets on September 9, where he managed just four completions on eight attempts for 22 yards and was sacked twice during a 24-3 defeat.
Brissett was initially named the starting quarterback this season, drawing on his nine years of NFL experience.
After being drafted by the Patriots in 2016, he played for several teams, including the Colts, Dolphins, and Browns, before returning to New England.
Playoff Hopes Dimmed
As the Patriots look to turn their season around, it’s important to note that they haven’t made the playoffs since 2021, when they lost to the Buffalo Bills in the Wildcard round.
With Maye taking the reins, fans are hopeful for a resurgence as the team prepares for the upcoming clash with the Jaguars.
What’s next for the young quarterback and his team remains to be seen!
