Patrick Mahomes Expresses Concern for Injured Teammate Rashee Rice Following Collision During Chiefs’ Successful Week 4 Game Against the Chargers

In the aftermath of a surprising incident on the field, Patrick Mahomes recently shared his feelings regarding a collision with his Kansas City Chiefs teammate, Rashee Rice.

This unfortunate moment has put Rice on an indefinite injury reserve, raising concerns about his availability for the rest of the season.

Collision During the Game

During the Week 4 clash against the Los Angeles Chargers, Mahomes was desperately trying to halt the Chargers’ progress after throwing an interception.

As he lowered his shoulder to make a tackle, Rice unexpectedly collided with him, leading to a painful fall that left Rice in need of assistance to leave the field.

Reflecting on the incident, Mahomes expressed regret about the role he played in injuring one of the team’s key players.

Mahomes Takes Responsibility

“When I saw the replay, I felt terrible that I hit Rashee,” Mahomes told reporters.

“I wasn’t really worried about myself; my concern was for his injury and hoping it wasn’t as serious as it looked since I was the one who made contact.”

After being carted off the field, initial fears suggested Rice might have torn his ACL due to his knee hyperextending during the collision.

Thankfully, preliminary tests showed no signs of a severe tear.

However, the Chiefs are still waiting for an official diagnosis as further evaluations of his knee are conducted.

Chiefs Announce Injury Reserve Placement

Later that afternoon, the Chiefs placed Rice on injury reserve, which means he will be sidelined for at least four games.

Earlier, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid mentioned, “We’ll get testing done and let you know what we find.”

In the post-game discussions following the Chiefs’ win, Mahomes reflected on the interception that led to the unfortunate incident with Rice.

Looking Back at the Play

“Obviously, the corner made a good play,” Mahomes explained.

“I was trying to pass the ball to Travis Kelce, but I overthrew him a bit, which resulted in the turnover.

I thought Rashee made a great effort, and then I tried to tackle the guy, but I ended up rolling up on him.

If I hadn’t turned the ball over, that collision wouldn’t have happened. It’s a lesson to learn from.”

Despite this setback, the Chiefs remain undefeated in their pursuit of a third consecutive championship, boasting a perfect 4-0 record.

They are set to face off against the New Orleans Saints on October 7, looking to maintain their winning streak.

Rice’s Impact Before the Injury

Before his injury, Rashee Rice had been making a significant impact on the team, tallying 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns.

As the Chiefs navigate the upcoming games, fans will undoubtedly be eager to see how the team adjusts in Rice’s absence and whether he can return to the field later in the season.
