Orlando Pirates midfielder Miguel Timm reflects on losing his starting spot and shares how he is handling the challenges of limited game time

Orlando Pirates midfielder, Miguel Timm, recently shared his thoughts on his reduced game time this season.

After joining the Buccaneers from Marumo Gallants in 2022, Timm quickly became a key figure under coach Jose Riveiro, earning respect from fans for his consistent performances and work ethic.

However, the dynamics began to shift when Thalente Mbatha arrived from SuperSport United midway through the previous season, pushing Timm down the pecking order.

Facing Fewer Minutes on the Pitch

So far this season, Timm has found himself on the sidelines more often than not.

He has only featured twice across all competitions—both as a substitute in the MTN8 and CAF Champions League.

Despite this, the 32-year-old remains determined to contribute to the team, fully aware that challenges like these come with the territory in football.

Relying on Experience to Stay Composed

In an interview with Marawa Sports Worldwide, Timm discussed his approach to handling this tough period.

“Football is a team sport,” he explained.

“It’s not like tennis or boxing where you’re on your own.

Of course, you always want to be on the field, but I’ve been in the game long enough to understand how to manage when things don’t go your way.”

Timm emphasized the importance of respecting the coach’s decisions, saying, “I’m not the type of player to question management or the technical team. I respect their choices and focus on what I can control.”

Staying Positive Amid the Team’s Success

While his personal game time may be limited, Timm finds solace in the Pirates’ strong start to the 2024/25 season.

“There’s no room for complaints when the team is doing so well,” he noted.

The Pirates remain unbeaten so far, and Timm believes it’s crucial to focus on the bigger picture.

“My priority is to work on myself, keep a positive attitude, and set an example for the younger players.

Sulking or dragging my feet would only send the wrong message.”

Patience and Support Are Key

Timm is determined to be a positive influence in the locker room, especially for the less experienced players.

“I’ve seen how veteran players who aren’t getting game time can sometimes become disruptive, and I don’t want to be that guy,” he said.

Instead, he’s focusing on maintaining a strong work ethic and continuing to support the management, technical staff, and his teammates.

Though he’s itching for more minutes, Timm remains optimistic.

“We have a long season ahead, and I’m hopeful that my chance will come.

Until then, I’ll stay patient, keep working hard, and be ready when my moment arrives.”

Looking Ahead with Optimism

As Timm navigates this challenging phase of his career, he’s clear that his commitment to Orlando Pirates hasn’t wavered.

He continues to view his role at the club as a privilege and is focused on contributing both on and off the field.

Whether playing or supporting from the sidelines, Timm’s positive attitude and experience make him a valuable asset to the Buccaneers this season.
