Mandla Ncikazi, Orlando Pirates’ co-coach, appears to have given up on winning the DStv Premiership this season.
In his own words, Ncikazi conceded that closing the 14-point gap held by Mamelodi Sundowns will be a miracle for any club, including second-placed Pirates.
Sundowns, according to Ncikazi, are the only team that can help other teams claw their way back into the title fight.
As a result, Pirates will go all out in this year’s Nedbank Cup, beginning with a Last 32 match against AmaZulu on Sunday.
Ncikazi said they will give it their all in the Nedbank Cup although he’s not promising that Pirates will lift the trophy.
“It will be a miracle for any team to bridge a gap of 14 points against Sundowns. It’s only Sundowns who can take the league out of the cabinet for competition,” Ncikazi told the media.
“So, the Nedbank Cup gives us an opportunity to play five, if I’m not mistaken, five games, and then you win the Cup.
“So, we are going to give it a go without making promises and fail if we fail but we must give an effort, and hopefully, it will be positive for Pirates this time around.”
