Ohaneze Ndịgbo Honours Bubendurf Memorial Grammar School Adazi-Nnukwu For Promoting Igbo Language, Tradition

The Anambra State Chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide has extolled and honoured students and management of Bubendurf Memorial Grammar School, Adazi Nnukwu in Anocha Local Government Area for their efforts in promoting Igbo language and tradition.

 

It would be recalled that the school, last year, held cultural festival and publication of their magazine titled ‘Obu-echine’, which became an internet sensation and garnered wide spread commendations within and outside Nigeria.

Correspondent Emmanuel Chigbata reports that while welcoming the students and management of the school who dressed in typical ‘isi agu’ attire; with beads round their necks, the Anambra State Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide, Prince Emeka Udodeme, commended the school for showcasing Igbo culture and tradition, stating that such effort is a means of ensuring that Igbo language and tradition do not go into extinction.

 

While presenting a commendation letter to the school management on behalf of Anambra State chapter of the organization, Prince Udodeme assured of continuous support to the school, urging others to emulate them  in celebrating cultural festivals.

 

He thanked Anambra State Government for promoting Igbo languages and culture in various schools by mandating students to wear Igbo attire every Wednesday, calling for its sustenance.

In their remarks, the Anambra State Secretary of the organisation , Sir Emmanuel Okafor, Anaocha Local Government Chairman, Dr. Ben Onugbolu, and Awka South LG chairman of the organization, Mr. Uzo Ekemezie  lauded Bubendurf Memorial Grammar School Adazi Nnukwu, urging the school not to relent in promoting Igbo language and culture.

 

Responding on behalf of the school management, the Principal, Reverend Father Chukwudozie Ekwem, appreciated the State chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide for the commendation and honour, assuring that the school will redouble efforts in promoting Igbo language and culture.

 

The Cultural Head of students of the school, Master Chigozie Akalugo, who encouraged parents to keep promoting Igbo language and culture by teaching their children how to speak Igbo language and other related cultural practices, noted that this year’s cultural event in the school will showcase more activities.

 

Anambra State chapter of the apex Igbo sociocultural organization equally presented a cheque to the school as a way of encouragement and support.
