In 2023, the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Units Zone A, Ikeja, reported a significant crackdown on illegal items, totaling 1,119 and valued at N10 billion.
Hussein Ejibunnu, the Customs Area Controller, disclosed this achievement during a media briefing at the command.
Diverse Seizures and Estimated Value
The seizures, encompassing a wide array of items, amounted to a staggering duty paid value of N10,395,123,943. Among the confiscated items were 83,170 bags of imported rice, equivalent to 139 trailers.
This included a variety of goods such as vehicles, marijuana, tramadol, used tyres, poultry products, footwear, and petroleum products.
Prominent Seizure: Foreign Parboiled Rice
Ejibunnu highlighted the prominence of the seizure of foreign parboiled rice, constituting 139 trailer loads, translating to an impressive 83,170 bags of 50kg each.
This underscored the Customs’ commitment to curbing the influx of illegal goods and safeguarding the nation’s economic interests.
