In a surprising move, Nasreddine Nabi has stepped into the role of head coach for Kaizer Chiefs, a position he couldn’t turn down despite numerous other offers.
Previously at the helm of AS FAR Rabat, Nabi had attracted attention from various clubs before deciding to lead the Chiefs.
Recently, Nabi had opportunities to head teams like Algeria’s USM Alger, Moroccan powerhouses Wydad Casablanca, and even the Tunisia national team.
AS FAR also wanted him to stay on, despite not securing the Botola League title or the Throne Cup last season.
When he spoke to journalists at Naturena, Nabi, who has a notable history of success across Africa, highlighted the special allure of the Chiefs and their storied past.
“The club’s history and the challenge of bringing back their former glory really appealed to me,” he said.
Having previously revived Young Africans after a lengthy trophy drought and challenged the dominance of Simba SC, Nabi’s appointment brings hope to Chiefs fans who are eager for an end to their nine-year trophyless period.
His proven track record suggests he has what it takes to turn around the team and instill a winning mindset.
Nabi’s Strategic Vision
The 58-year-old coach laid out his plans for rebuilding the team. He emphasized the need for a realistic approach, free from emotional biases. “We must assess our current resources honestly,” Nabi explained.
“Only after a thorough evaluation can we craft a strategy to propel the team forward. I’m not here to make grand promises but to develop a solid plan.”

Nabi acknowledged the frustration among fans who are tired of unfulfilled promises.
“The supporters are weary of repeated assurances,” he said. “This season, we need to focus on building a strong team capable of competing both locally and internationally.”
Nabi is clear about his intentions: “I’m not here to offer excuses for not winning. We will strive to win every match and build a team that lives up to its potential.”
Chiefs supporters will get their first look at Nabi’s approach when the team faces his former club, Tanzanian champions Yanga, in the inaugural Toyota Cup at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.
