…By Enitan Thompson for TDPel Media. A tragic case concluded at Luton Crown Court as a mother, Ellie Jacobs, was sentenced to five years in prison for the manslaughter of her five-week-old son, Archie Jacobs, and child cruelty.
The incident occurred during lockdown, and Jacobs admitted to administering a fatal dose of paracetamol to the infant.
Additionally, she confessed to causing multiple injuries to Archie, including a broken leg and foot, in the days leading up to his death.
The court heard that emergency services were called on June 5, 2020, when Archie went into cardiac arrest at a residence in Biddlesden, Buckinghamshire.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination determined that acute paracetamol toxicity was the cause of death.
Guilty Plea and Investigation Details
Initially arrested and charged with murder in October, Ellie Jacobs later pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Detective Chief Inspector Will Crowther, from Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, expressed the tragic nature of the case and highlighted Jacobs’ admissions regarding Archie’s injuries and the fatal overdose.
The investigation, which aimed to uncover the truth behind the infant’s death, spanned a significant period.
Crowther acknowledged the importance of Jacobs finally accepting responsibility for her actions during the trial.
He expressed hope that the guilty plea and subsequent sentencing would assist Archie’s family in moving forward after enduring an unbearable period.
The detective thanked the witnesses for their testimony and praised the investigation team for their unwavering dedication to seeking the truth.
Crowther urged individuals to promptly report any concerns about the safety and well-being of a child to the authorities to ensure their protection from harm.
