Lesedi Kapinga, once a forward for Orlando Pirates, is embarking on a new chapter in his football career in the Betway Premiership.
After a stint with the Pirates, he is now set to make his mark with Sekhukhune United.
Orlando Pirates Part Ways with Kapinga
After a lengthy pre-season that included a training trip to Spain and participation in three MTN8 matches as well as three CAF Champions League games, the decision was made by Sea Robbers coach Jose Riveiro to exclude the 29-year-old attacker from the team’s future plans.
This comes just over a season after Kapinga made the switch from Mamelodi Sundowns, joining the Pirates as a free agent.
In a statement, the Orlando Pirates Football Club confirmed the development, stating, “We have reached an agreement with Lesedi Kapinga for the early release of his contract.”
The club expressed gratitude towards Kapinga, saying, “Both parties have agreed to amicably part ways following a meeting earlier today.
On behalf of the extended Orlando Pirates family, we would like to thank Lesedi for his time at the Club and we wish him all the best for the future.”
Kapinga joins a list of players who have also departed from Orlando Pirates this season, including Kermit Erasmus, Richard Ofori, Siphelo Baloni, Fortune Makaringe, and Vincent Pule.
New Beginnings at Sekhukhune United
In a fresh development, Sekhukhune United has officially announced the signing of Kapinga, although the details of the contract remain undisclosed.
“Sekhukhune United are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Lesedi Kapinga. Welcome to the Babina Noko Family,” the club shared on X.
Former player and close acquaintance, Ramagalela, expressed optimism about Kapinga’s new venture, saying, “Personally, for me, that’s a great move for him. I call him my ‘homeboy’ because we both come from the same province.”
He added, “I hope he will get a fair chance to play there; he has a good coach in Seema, who is exceptional. He’s still a good player, and with many seasons ahead of him, he will definitely add value to the team.”
Ramagalela emphasized the importance of this move for Kapinga’s confidence, noting, “Most importantly, I think the move to Sekhukhune will help him regain the form we all know. If he gets his confidence back, he will be alright.”
