After a dramatic crash at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Sergio Perez’s father, Antonio Perez Garibay, is reported to be in a stable condition.
This health scare occurred shortly after the collision that involved both Perez and Carlos Sainz during the race’s final laps.
Crash Details and Health Scare
During the intense race for third place in Baku, Perez and Sainz experienced a high-speed crash.
Fortunately, both drivers emerged from the accident without physical harm.
However, the aftermath took a toll on Perez Garibay, who suffered a pre-heart attack condition, marked by chest pain and a fainting episode.
Medio Tiempo, a Mexican publication, reported that Perez Garibay linked his medical issue to the shock of the accident.
He mentioned, “Everything happened after the accident.
The shock of the accident may have caused it. They are already checking my heart to see why I fainted.”
Medical Response and Current Condition
According to an official statement from Perez Garibay’s press office, he was found unconscious in the bathroom of his Mexico City home.
Immediate medical attention was provided by paramedics, and he was swiftly transported to a local hospital for further care.
The statement clarified, “He was rushed to a hospital in the capital, where he is currently under medical observation and in stable condition.
We thank you for your expressions of support and affection.”
Scuderia Perez, Perez Garibay’s racing organization, confirmed that the 65-year-old remains in intensive care.
The focus is on monitoring his heart and vital organs, with specialists keeping a close eye on his condition.
Perez’s Upcoming Challenges
While his father’s health is being closely monitored, Sergio Perez is gearing up for the Singapore Grand Prix this Sunday.
It’s a crucial race for him as he aims to return to the podium for the first time since the Chinese GP in April.
Currently, Perez is positioned eighth in the driver’s standings with 143 points.
Additionally, Red Bull is looking to rebound from their recent slip in the constructor’s standings, having fallen behind McLaren.
McLaren’s strong performance in Baku, with Oscar Piastri’s victory and Lando Norris’ fourth-place finish, has given them a 20-point lead over Red Bull with seven races left in the season.
