A man has been banned from driving for more than two years after a late-night crash in Cambridgeshire.
Luke Mills, 44, flipped his car onto its side after losing control on Peakirk Road in Glinton, near Peterborough.
The incident took place on 7 September after Mills had consumed four pints of alcohol.
Admitting to Being Too Drunk to Drive
When police arrived at the scene, Mills openly admitted that he had been drinking, responding with just one word: “Drunk.”
He later confirmed to officers that he had consumed four pints, adding that it was “too much.”
Mills was breathalysed at the scene, showing a reading of 93 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath—nearly three times the legal limit of 35.
Court Appearance and Consequences
On 27 September, Mills appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to drink driving.
The court handed him a driving ban for two years and four months, along with a fine of £140.
He was also ordered to complete a 15-day rehabilitation program to address his actions.
Police Urge Caution on Drink Driving
Following the court proceedings, PC Nick Southern, Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s casualty reduction officer, expressed concern about the dangers of driving under the influence.
“Mills knew the risks of driving while intoxicated and admitted his mistake immediately,” Southern said.
He further encouraged the public to find alternative transportation when intoxicated, emphasizing that there is never an excuse for driving under the influence.
