Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was arrested on Sunday night for felony domestic violence, as reported by TMZ. Urias, 27, was released in the early hours of Monday morning after posting a $50,000 bond.
He spent approximately four hours behind bars and now has a court date scheduled for later in September. This isn’t Urias’s first encounter with legal issues related to domestic matters; in 2019, he was arrested for domestic battery in Beverly Hills, although he was not charged with a crime, he received a 20-game suspension by MLB. The Dodgers issued a statement acknowledging the incident and stated that Urias would not be traveling with the team while they gather more information.
Urias, a Mexican native, recently signed a one-year, $14.25 million deal with the Dodgers for the 2023 season. He had previously won the World Series with the team in 2020 and has been a part of the Dodgers organization since 2016. His last game was on September 1 in a loss to the Atlanta Braves, where he struggled, allowing five runs over five innings.
The Dodgers are set to play their next game on Tuesday night, starting a three-game series against the Miami Marlins. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts commented on Urias’s performance, noting that he wasn’t sharp, and there were issues with pitch placement. Despite this, the Dodgers maintain a strong lead in the NL West with an 84-52 record.
