…By Roland Peterson for TDPel Media. In response to a tragic incident that occurred in Malamulele, Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has ordered a thorough investigation.
The shooting took place at a local tavern on Thursday, June 1, 2023, around 8:00 p.m., resulting in the death of two individuals and injuries to six others.
Details of the Shooting Incident
According to Conel Malesela Ledwaba, the spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo, it is believed that approximately eight unidentified males entered the tavern and began shooting indiscriminately, without any prior warning.
During the chaotic incident, eight people were shot, with two tragically losing their lives at the scene.
The remaining six victims were immediately rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Preliminary Findings and Suspects at Large
Ledwaba revealed that numerous spent cartridges from a pistol were discovered scattered throughout the crime scene.
Additionally, it was noted that the suspects fled in two double cab motor vehicles following the shooting.
The motive behind the attack and the subsequent targeted killing of some of the tavern’s patrons remains unknown at this time.
Strong Condemnation from the Police Commissioner
Expressing her outrage and condemnation, Commissioner Hadebe stressed the need to bring the perpetrators to justice.
She has tasked her team with apprehending the suspects responsible for this senseless act of violence. Hadebe also called upon the community to come forward with any information that could assist the police in their investigation.
