Limpopo-born actress and model, Mosa Nkwashu, is making waves with her role as Lewatle Babeile on the popular TV show Skeem Saam.
At just 17 years old, Mosa is balancing her rising career with her own matric studies, all while tackling the complex character of Lewatle, a grade 10 student.
Though Mosa’s personal life might differ from her on-screen persona, she admits that stepping into Lewatle’s shoes has been both challenging and rewarding.
“Lewatle Is Unlike Me”
Talking about her character, Mosa describes Lewatle as fascinating and unlike herself in many ways.
“Lewatle faces situations that I personally haven’t experienced,” she explains.
“It’s interesting to explore these emotions and challenges that many teenage girls face in real life.
It pushes me as an actress to step outside of my comfort zone.”
Despite their differences, Mosa embraces the complexity of her character, noting that portraying someone so different from herself offers valuable learning experiences.
A New Challenge Every Day
Portraying Lewatle has been a journey of growth for Mosa.
“Because Lewatle and I are so different, it challenges me in ways I didn’t expect,” she shares.
The role has allowed her to stretch her acting skills and immerse herself in the life of a teenage girl dealing with complicated emotions and difficult decisions.
Since joining the cast of Skeem Saam in January 2022, Mosa has worked alongside fellow young actors like Phillip Thobejane (Mahlatse), Mahlatse Moropo (Letetswe), Thabiso Molokomme (Paxton), and Zizo Sobhutyu (Mosebjadi).
Lewatle’s Story on Skeem Saam
On Skeem Saam, Mosa’s character, Lewatle, is the daughter of Captain Enos Babeile (played by Matthews Manamela).
Lewatle’s storyline takes her on a rollercoaster of emotions, especially regarding her romantic relationship with Paxton Kgomo (Thabiso Molokomme).
Lewatle’s infatuation with Paxton leads her to make some drastic decisions, including running away to Johannesburg to be with him, where she experiences major life events like her first sexual encounter.
