Sunrise FC, a team competing in the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League, has recently made some strategic moves to enhance their squad.
They’ve brought in two former stars from Mamelodi Sundowns, Tebogo Langerman and Punch Masenamela, and the club is excited about what this means for their future.
Roles and Responsibilities
Tebogo Langerman joins the club as a player-coach, while Punch Masenamela will contribute as part of the co-coaching staff.
Together, they will collaborate with existing members Sello Mosima and Thabiso Thobane to shape the technical team for the 2024/25 season.
Langerman has already made his debut for Sunrise FC during the Nedbank Cup qualifiers held over the weekend.
Recent Match Outcome
In a dramatic turn of events, however, Sunrise FC faced disappointment in the Nedbank Cup qualifiers.
They were eliminated after a nail-biting penalty shootout, losing 4-3 to Ngwaabe City Motors following a 1-1 draw in regular time. Despite the setback, the club remains focused on their goals for the season.
Motivating Young Talent
Thabiso Thobane, the club’s media officer and co-coach, shared insights into why they decided to recruit Langerman and Masenamela.
He emphasized the importance of surrounding their young players with experienced individuals who can share their knowledge of the game and inspire the next generation.
“We realized that our up-and-coming players benefit greatly from having experienced players nearby,” Thobane explained.
“When they see someone with a history in top-flight football training and playing alongside them, it provides a huge motivational boost.”
A New Approach to Coaching
Thobane elaborated on the dual role of coaching and playing, explaining that it facilitates communication between the experienced players and the younger squad members.
“This is the philosophy we aim to instill in our youth.
By having seasoned players on the field, they can model the techniques we want to teach.”
Future Plans
Looking ahead, Thobane mentioned that negotiations are underway with other experienced players who may soon join the team.
He promised that announcements would be made once those discussions are finalized, hinting at an exciting time ahead for Sunrise FC.
