Lehlohonolo Majoro Urges Kaizer Chiefs to Emulate Mamelodi Sundowns’ Successful Transition Strategies from Pitso Mosimane’s Era in South Africa

As Kaizer Chiefs look to reinvigorate their squad with a fresh approach under new coach Nasreddine Nabi, former striker Lehlohonolo Majoro has shared some advice.

Majoro, who once played for the club, believes that Chiefs could learn a lot from the journey of Mamelodi Sundowns during Pitso Mosimane’s tenure.

A New Era for Kaizer Chiefs

With the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season on the horizon, Chiefs are setting out on a new path under Nabi’s leadership.

The Tunisian coach faces the challenge of steering the team back to its former glory—a goal that has remained out of reach for the past nine seasons.

Sundowns’ Transformation Under Mosimane

Majoro draws a parallel with Mamelodi Sundowns’ history, specifically the period before Pitso Mosimane took over in December 2012.

At that time, Sundowns were struggling, but Mosimane, who replaced Johan Neeskens, swiftly turned things around.

His leadership led Sundowns to their first title in the 2013/14 season, and the club has since enjoyed an era of dominance, winning seven consecutive Betway Premiership titles.

Even after Mosimane’s departure in 2020, his impact continues to influence the team’s success.

Majoro’s Advice for Chiefs

The 38-year-old Majoro advises Chiefs to be patient with coach Nabi.

He suggests that the team should allow Nabi the time and space to build his squad and bring in the right players.

Majoro emphasizes that such a process requires patience, noting, “We can look at what Sundowns achieved under Mosimane.

They went through a building phase; it took him about one and a half seasons to transform Sundowns into the dominant force they became.”

The Road Ahead

Majoro acknowledges the supporters’ desire for quick results but stresses that there are no shortcuts in football.

“Kaizer Chiefs needs to go through a similar phase,” he explains.

“The coach needs time to assemble a competitive team and to bring in players for the positions that need strengthening.”

Majoro concludes with a realistic outlook, “I’m expecting to see some changes with the new signings.

While we all want to see Kaizer Chiefs return to their former glory, it’s important to understand that this will take time.”
