In a deeply unsettling event, a chicken shop worker in Chicago allegedly turned violent during his shift, pulling out a gun and fatally shooting two men.
The incident unfolded on October 7 at J&J’s Fish and Chicken, located on the Southwest Side of the city.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Mehdi Medellel, has been arrested and is facing first-degree murder charges.
The Argument Escalates
According to police reports, the shocking confrontation began around 10:30 PM when the two victims, aged 55 and 56, engaged in an argument with Medellel.
Although their identities have not been disclosed, the footage obtained by DailyMail.com reveals a chilling scene.
Just moments before the shooting, the victims seemed oblivious to the danger they were in—one was seated at a table enjoying a meal while the other rummaged through a bag.
The Disturbing Footage
The security footage captures the moment Medellel emerged from behind a door, brandishing a firearm.
Upon seeing the gun, one victim appeared startled and retreated, while the other continued to sit at the table.
In a terrifying turn of events, the first victim attempted to escape by moving toward the back wall, but Medellel shot him in the head, causing him to collapse.
Before the second victim could react, Medellel quickly turned and fired at him as well, striking him in the head.
Both men suffered single gunshot wounds to the head and face and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Aftermath
Following the shooting, Medellel was seen casually leaving the restaurant.
The police apprehended him approximately 30 minutes later.
Online records indicate that he has a criminal history in both Illinois and Florida, including a 2021 arrest for domestic battery involving bodily harm.
In the wake of the shooting, J&J’s Fish and Chicken was closed as authorities cordoned off the area for investigation.
Community Reaction
The community reacted with shock and sadness.
One woman, who arrived at the restaurant only to find it shut down, expressed her disappointment and sorrow over the tragic events.
“I wish they hadn’t done that,” she told the Chicago Sun-Times, reflecting the collective grief felt by many in the neighborhood.
What happens next in this tragic story remains to be seen, as the community grapples with the aftermath of this senseless violence.
