Amid growing speculation, Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, has put an end to rumors surrounding Arthur Zwane’s potential return to the senior team.
The talk of Zwane stepping back into his old role gained traction after the recent departure of coach Fernando da Cruz, raising eyebrows among fans and insiders alike.
Zwane’s Current Role at Kaizer Chiefs
Arthur Zwane, once a key figure on the senior coaching staff, has now shifted his focus to nurturing the next generation of talent.
He was officially confirmed as the Senior Academy Coach after months of uncertainty about his role within the club.
Previously, Zwane had held various senior team positions, including assistant coach and, for a brief period, head coach.
However, he was reassigned after Cavin Johnson took over as interim coach following Molefi Ntseki’s departure in late 2023.
The Rumor Mill: Will Zwane Return?
The departure of Fernando da Cruz from Amakhosi led to whispers that Zwane might be called back to the senior team.
Motaung Jr, however, was quick to squash these rumors during an interview with Robert Marawa on Radio 947.
He made it clear that Zwane’s role remains with the academy and that no changes are planned for his position.
Motaung Jr’s Response to Speculation
Motaung Jr acknowledged that social media often fuels unnecessary rumors, saying, “Sometimes that’s the challenge.
When something is said on social media, it gets picked up and causes unnecessary energy around the team.”
He further clarified that there is no truth to the reports of Zwane’s return to the senior team, emphasizing that the academy’s program, led by Zwane, is progressing well.
The Next Steps for Kaizer Chiefs
Despite the departure of Da Cruz, Motaung Jr did not disclose any immediate plans to bring in a replacement.
Da Cruz had been part of Nasreddine Nabi’s backroom staff, which notably did not feature any Kaizer Chiefs legends.
For now, it seems the focus remains on developing young talent through Zwane’s academy program, with no imminent changes to the senior coaching team.
