Kaizer Chiefs are preparing to reignite their pursuit of Asanele Velebayi when the January transfer window opens.
After their initial efforts during the winter window were blocked, recent discussions with the player’s agent have given the club renewed hope.
Velebayi Still in High Demand
Asanele Velebayi, the 21-year-old star of Cape Town Spurs, continues to be a key target for Kaizer Chiefs.
Spurs head coach Ernst Middendorp was firm in his stance during the previous window, turning down Chiefs’ approach.
However, Velebayi’s agent, Lance Davids, is optimistic about the upcoming window.
Speaking on Metro FM Sports, Davids said, “We’ll definitely try our best in the next transfer window.
If Chiefs remain interested, I hope the deal can happen because Asanele is a fantastic player.
We just have to ensure that he retains, or even increases, his value.”
Davids added that both the club and the player were disappointed with the rejection of the initial offer.
Despite this, Velebayi remains focused, and he’s even taken on the role of captain at Spurs, a sign of his growing leadership and potential.
Setbacks and Ambitions
Velebayi’s ambition to play for one of South Africa’s top clubs, like Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, or Sundowns, was dealt a blow when the transfer didn’t go through.
“Every player dreams of joining a big club,” Davids continued.
“Although it was disheartening for Asanele, he’s kept his head up and continues to lead Cape Town Spurs with the captain’s armband.”
Despite the setback, Velebayi remains motivated, and Chiefs will undoubtedly have to make a compelling offer to secure his services when the window reopens.
