When it comes to recent signings for Kaizer Chiefs, there’s been a lot of buzz around their latest acquisitions.
Among the new faces are goalkeeper Fiarce Ntwari from TS Galaxy, midfielder Rushwin Dortley from Cape Town Spurs, and the promising left-back Bongani Sam from Orlando Pirates. But according to former Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertuğral, one name stands out above the rest.
Ertuğral has singled out Rushwin Dortley as the most crucial signing for the team. Despite Cape Town Spurs’ unfortunate relegation last season, Dortley made quite an impression.
He captained the South African national team during the 2024 COSAFA Cup, showcasing his leadership and defensive skills.
At just 22, this left-footed centre-back is known for his impressive ball-playing abilities and versatility, making him a perfect fit for coach Nasreddine Nabi’s plans to revitalize the team.
Ertugral’s Thoughts on Dortley
Ertuğral is enthusiastic about Dortley’s potential impact at Chiefs.
He praises the club’s decision to bring in Dortley, noting, “These are solid signings. Especially Rushwin—he’s a very talented player.
After he adjusts, I believe he has a great future ahead of him.”
Ertuğral also acknowledges the higher intensity of the Premier League compared to the PSL. He sees Dortley as a key player who can help the club get back into title contention.
“Competition only enhances quality,” Ertugral adds. “I really hope the club finds its way back to success.”
Facing Competition and Future Prospects
However, Dortley won’t have an easy path.
He will need to compete with Botswana international Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, who was a crucial part of Chiefs’ squad last season despite their struggles.
Given Dortley’s age and potential, he represents a long-term investment for Chiefs as they aim to break their nine-year PSL title drought.
