Petersen, along with the rest of the squad, is ready to turn things around under the leadership of their new head coach, Nasreddine Nabi.
Learning from a Challenging Season
Kaizer Chiefs’ 10th-place finish last season was their lowest ever in Premier Soccer League history, a stark reminder of the challenges the team faced.
After parting ways with interim coach Cavin Johnson, the club pursued Nabi, a move that signaled their determination to bounce back.
Even though they initially couldn’t secure Nabi after his departure from Young Africans, they didn’t give up on bringing him in.
Now, with Nabi at the helm, Chiefs have already seen promising results with two wins—a 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants and a 3-1 win against AmaZulu.
Despite a 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, the sold-out stadiums show that fans and players alike believe in the team’s renewed vision.

Petersen opened up about the change in energy at the club.
“There’s just this new belief and energy,” he said in a recent interview.
According to Petersen, while the team always had belief, the past few seasons dulled that spark.

Players, especially those returning from previous seasons, are more motivated than ever to push harder and achieve success.
“Playing for a club like Kaizer Chiefs, you always want to be the best,” Petersen added, attributing this fresh drive to the new mindset instilled by the coaching staff.
Working with the New Coaching Team
One of the key changes for the squad this season is the arrival of new goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi, who came on board with Nabi.
Petersen shared how Mzoughi’s infectious passion has already made a big difference in training.
“He brings this energy that’s just contagious,” Petersen explained, noting that goalkeepers tend to keep their emotions in check, but Mzoughi’s enthusiasm encourages them to push their limits.
In addition to Mzoughi, the new technical team includes assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef and strength and conditioning coach Safi Majdi, further solidifying Chiefs’ commitment to excellence.
After assistant coach Fernando Da Cruz left to join the Moroccan Football Federation, Mzoughi has stepped into a vital role, and his presence is already being felt in the squad.
