In the dynamic world of football, the Kaizer Chiefs are actively seeking to bolster their squad with another striker.
Head coach Nasreddine Nabi has expressed the need for a partner for Ranga Chivaviro, highlighting the importance of having a strong forward lineup.
Chivaviro’s Journey
Despite Ranga Chivaviro’s promising start at the club, the Chiefs recognize the necessity for an additional forward.
Chivaviro, who previously made headlines for his impressive 18-goal season with Marumo Gallants, faced a tougher transition to the Chiefs, finishing his debut season with only four goals in 23 appearances.
The Chiefs ended the season in a disappointing 10th place, marking their lowest finish in the Premier Soccer League’s history.
Progress Under Nabi
Since Nasreddine Nabi took charge, there’s been a noticeable improvement in Chivaviro’s performance.
After a solid pre-season, he has already found the back of the net in crucial matches, including a goal in the 3-1 win against AmaZulu and another in the 2-1 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Nabi remains hopeful about Chivaviro’s future but stresses that adding another striker is essential for the team’s success.
Nabi shared insights during a recent press conference, stating, “Ranga… you know, it’s true [I tried to sign him] at that moment I had Fiston Mayele, and I knew he was going to leave. We looked [for strikers], and in CAF, we played Marumo Gallants, he had two very good games.”
He added, “Yes, I know there’s progress, but Ranga needs to work more, more confidence, specific work in the finishing. I think he’s made progress but he needs another striker with him because if there’s two, you progress more.”
The Mayele Connection
So, who could this additional striker be? Many fans have their eyes on Fiston Mayele, a beloved figure among Chiefs supporters.
Mayele thrived under Nabi’s mentorship at Yanga in Tanzania and is currently making waves at Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League.
However, securing Mayele’s services won’t be easy.
Pyramids FC is reportedly asking for R14.5 million, while the Chiefs are looking to offer around R10 million, leaving a significant gap in negotiations.
Despite this hurdle, Mayele remains a top priority for the Chiefs, with hopes of bringing him in by January.
Looking Ahead
As the Kaizer Chiefs strategize to enhance their attacking options, all eyes are on Ranga Chivaviro’s development and the potential acquisition of Fiston Mayele.
The club’s ambitions for a successful season hinge on finding the right forward to complement their squad.
