In a recent phone interview from his Florida Panhandle prison, Joe Exotic, the infamous star of *Tiger King*, revealed his continued animosity towards his rival, Carole Baskin.
Serving a 21-year sentence for a murder-for-hire plot, the 55-year-old Exotic expressed his frustrations and ongoing legal battles.
Exotic, who is battling prostate cancer and possibly lung cancer, remains hopeful for a new trial and even a presidential pardon. He candidly admitted that his primary desire was to have Baskin “out of my hair and leave me alone.”
His comments came as he sought to explain his actions and motivations during the interview.
The Accusations and the Series
Exotic’s grievances with Baskin are well-known, largely due to their portrayal in the hit Netflix series *Tiger King*. Exotic has long accused Baskin of murdering her second husband, Don Lewis, and feeding his remains to her tigers.
Despite these serious claims, no concrete evidence has surfaced, and Lewis remains missing.
The disappearance of Lewis, who vanished in August 1997, has remained a mystery.
Although Baskin was never charged, the case drew widespread attention after *Tiger King* premiered in March 2020, highlighting the bitter feud between Exotic and Baskin.
Legal Struggles and Advocacy
Following his 2019 conviction, Exotic’s attempts to overturn his sentence have seen mixed results. A 2021 appeal reduced his sentence by a year, but Exotic is now pursuing a full appeal.
He claims that his trial was flawed and insists that he never intended to have Baskin harmed. According to Exotic, the undercover video presented at his trial was misleading.
Meanwhile, Howard Baskin, Carole’s current husband, has been vocal about his wife’s animal rights activism. He has criticized roadside zoos and emphasized their commitment to animal welfare through legislative efforts, including the “Big Cat Rescue Public Safety Act.”
The Future of Exotic and Baskin
As Exotic continues to fight his conviction, he remains a controversial figure. His bid for a presidential run last year only adds to the complex narrative surrounding his life and legal troubles.
