…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has strongly criticized ex-militant leader Asari Dokubo for his advice to President Bola Tinubu regarding the continued detention of pro-Biafran leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB denounced Dokubo, accusing him of using Kanu’s name as a bargaining chip to secure an oil contract.
Accusations of Seeking Oil Pipeline Protection Contracts
IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, expressed on Sunday that Dokubo was exploiting the situation with Kanu to secure an ‘oil guard’ contract from the Federal Government.
The group argued that Dokubo’s focus was primarily on obtaining a contract to protect oil pipelines and infrastructure.
Denouncing Militancy and Self-Serving Interests
Powerful emphasized that Dokubo and others who advocated for Kanu’s continued detention were neglecting the fact that militancy for financial gains falls into the same category as criminality and terrorism.
IPOB made it clear that they stood for the freedom of Biafrans, including those involved in guarding oil pipelines for the oppressors.
The group criticized individuals who prioritize fighting for oil pipeline contracts instead of supporting the liberation movement.
Warning against Misusing Kanu’s Detention for Personal Gains
IPOB’s spokesperson cautioned Dokubo against using Kanu’s “illegal detention” as a means to secure an oil guard contract, highlighting that Kanu had not destroyed any oil infrastructure or caused harm to anyone.
The statement stressed that Kanu’s involvement in the #EndSARS protest was unrelated to the issue at hand and warned Dokubo that attempting to secure a contract through manipulating the situation would only lead to his downfall.
Clarifying IPOB’s Mission and Objectives
The statement further emphasized that IPOB, under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, had a distinct mission.
They clarified that IPOB was fighting for the total emancipation and independence of Biafra, aiming for self-control and utilization of Biafran resources for the betterment of Biafrans.
The group differentiated itself from other militant groups in the Niger Delta region, highlighting their focus on independence rather than resource control or personal enrichment through oil contracts and exploitation.
